MEETING
Tuesday, September 11, 2007 @ 7 p.m.
Johnston Historical Society
101 Putnam Pike Rt. #44
Johnston, RI  Telephone:  401-231-3380

PROGRAM:  In 1969, President Richard Greene took a summer job at Shelburne Museum in Vermont.  The diverse museum collection had a lasting impact on his life. qHowever, one particular item impressed him more than any other.  In the “Vermont House” was an elaborately-carved oak “Hadley” chest.  Its complex design fascinated him, and the more he saw it, the more he came to believe it had a hidden meaning.  The chest and others like it became a subject of interest and study which resulted in an article published in The Magazine Antiques in August of 1977.  At our meeting, Richard will show slides and tell about his findings.

Directions to the Historical Society:  From Rt. 295, take exit #7 onto Rt. 44 (Putnam Pike.)   Go east toward Centerdale about 1.1 miles.  The museum is on the left next to the fire station.  Our meeting will be held in the barn located right in back of the house museum.  There is ample parking on the side and to the rear of the fire station.

SNEADA PLANS FOR UPCOMING MONTHS:  While the antiques market is challenged these days, we have several things to look forward to which are cause for optimism.

1.)    Our Holiday Show this year will be held at the Crowne Plaza, and we will be returning to our original date, the first weekend of December.  We have every hope that this weekend, free of the complications of  the Thanksgiving weekend, will help improve our gate.
2.)    Thanks to the diligence and leadership of Jackie Nye, our Spring Show will be returning to an East Bay location.  The new site, the Ramada Inn at Seekonk, has an excellent location at Exit 1 on Route 195 and promises to help us regain some of our Massachusetts, East Bay, and East Side clientele.
3.)    The executive board has voted for a series of underwriting spots on WRNI, Rhode Island’s national public radio station.  This contribution to an educational non-profit will enhance name recognition of SNEADA and will allow us some limited advertising for our Holiday Show.

BROCHURES:  Please contact John & Linda Pierce with any changes in your membership brochure listing.  Contact them by email:  WRIB4@aol.com or by telephone:  401-458-9016 or at 54 Berkley Avenue, Portsmouth, RI  02871.   Please send any changes as soon as possible!  Thank you!

DUES:  Member dues for the 2007-2008 year are $70.  Please send your check made out to SNEADA to:   Karen McCaughey, P.O. Box 950, No. Scituate, RI  02857 by 9/30/07.
