MEETING
September 13, 2004 at 7 p.m.
Quonset Air Museum
488 Eccleston Way, Quonset Point
North Kingstown, RI
Welcome back to our members, after what we hope was an enjoyable (and profitable!) summer for you all. Our September 13th meeting (the Monday after Labor Day) will be at the Quonset Air Museum, yet another important and fascinating part of Rhode Island's rich history. Many of the exhibits are outside, and the folks at the air museum will be giving us a guided tour to familiarize us with the various aircraft and their history. Remember, we have a new start time for our meetings: 7:00 pm, a half hour earlier than before. We hope to see you there, as we catch up with each other and look to a great year ahead for SNEADA! (Air museum directions are printed at the bottom of the newsletter.)
In the last few months the Board and committees have been hard at work planning for this year's activities, including interesting and informative meeting presentations, our two banner shows and third show possibilities. We'll be asking for your ideas and feedback on these and other activities.
BROCHURES - It is time for the printing of the brochures. Please send any changes (changes only) in your listing information (new telephone numbers, new e-mail address, etc.) to Lois Torman. Lois may be reached by telephone: 401-781-2650, e-mail: losamtor@cox.net <mailto:losamtor@cox.net> or by post at 45 Welfare Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910.
DUES DUE SOON - It's also membership renewal time. Soon you'll be
receiving information about renewing your membership, and updating your membership information. The sooner you respond, the easier it is for our hard working volunteers to update our membership and financial records and our web site listings, and to publish our member brochure in time for the CCRI Holiday show.
BY-LAWS AMENDMENTS - The Board has spent time developing some proposed By-Laws Amendments that we will present at our September meeting for your consideration. We feel that these proposed amendments will further clarify how we operate, make our board and committee work and communications even more effective, and in at least one case, bring our membership requirements up-to-date with current RI tax regulations.
In keeping with our By-laws on considering amendments, the proposed amendments will be officially submitted to the Recording Secretary at our September meeting. We will then have a discussion of this amendment atour October meeting. Finally, we will vote on the amendment at our November meeting. Please take a moment to review these amendments; we welcome your comments.
WEB SITE - One benefit of membership is our website, www.sneada.org or www.sneada.com. The site advertises our association, its meetings and events, and our individual dealers, to approximately 250 visitors each month. As a member, your business information is listed on the site, and several dealers have received contacts from potential customers generated from the web site. (If for some reason you do NOT want your information listed on our web site, please note that on your membership renewal form and/or please contact Diane Dolphin at 231-4462 or D_Dolphin@att.net).
Besides advertising there are several features for members only. To reach these, click on the MEMBERS ONLY button on the left of the HOME page. When it asks for a password, enter the word, VINTAGE. In this section, members can post antiques-related classified advertisements and notices, as well as to use links listed on the resources page. Creating listings is EASY, as there is a simple form to fill out, then the site does the rest. Folks have listed items for sale, items that they are looking for, shop sales, etc.
The listings run for two weeks; if you want to end a listing early, contact Diane Dolphin. Please check out these pages regularly, to see what your fellow members are up to!
Members can also access a page listing links to other web sites that have great research and resource information. (If you know of sites you think others would find useful, please contact Diane.)
We are still looking for folks to help out with the site, so that we have an official "committee" of folks who can share maintenance tasks and ideas on improving the site.
