MEETING
Monday, November 4, 2002 at 7:30pm
Sheraton Airport Hotel
Waterford Room (conference center area)
1850 Post Road
Warwick, RI
Program
November's speaker will be Joel Hawkins of Old Lyme, Connecticut.
Joel is one of those rare people whom we are all looking for;
a collector! He collects in two very different areas. As an Old
Lyme resident, he was drawn to the artworks of Thomas Nason, the
engraver who depicted landscapes of Old Lyme and other New England
towns during the second quarter of the twentieth century. Joel
uses a catalog raisone and his knowledge of local landscapes and
resources to augment his collection.
Joel's other passion is clear free-blown glass of the eighteenth
and early nineteenth centuries. He collects at Connecticut shows
and also on business trips to England. From the English dealers,
he has picked up some wonderful pieces not generally seen in teh
United States, as well as some bits of information not generally
heard in these parts. This will be a very informative session
on wood engravings and early glassware.

Thanks
Our sincere thanks to outgoing committee members, Marry Gormally
and Katie Corcoran, for the many projects worked on and time invested
on behalf of SNEADA. We welcome Bob Anderson and Chet Sobodacha,
who will be filling Marry's and Katie's positions.
Brochures and Dues
Brochures for 2002-2003 are being worked on. Lois Torman is consolidating
the information received with the dues letters. We will try to
have them ready for distribution at the CCRI show. If you have
not yet paid your dues, get them in now in order to be listed
in the brochure and on the web site. Deadline is October 31.
Web Site
The October meeting featured a professional and enthusiastic review
of the new SNEADA web site by the staff from ProProducts Web Design.
If you have not yet checked out our new site, go to www.sneada.org
and see what is happening. It is now live and no longer just a
test site. We will be adding more research and member-only links,
etc. over the next few weeks.
Dealer of the Year
This award will be presented at the November meeting as the recipient
was not able to attend the October meeting.
Best Wishes
Our best wishes go out to Bill & Gen Haynes, long-time active
members who are going through a difficult time. We recently learned
that Gen is in a nursing home, and Bill has had his share of ill
health with another surgery ahead. Bill advised that they will
not be able to continue with SNEADA activities.
CCRI Show Report
The HOliday Show is full at 70 dealers, and there is a waiting
list. The waiting list will be considered as follows: contracts
are numbered as they are received and applicants will be called
accordingly down the list as cancellations make spaces available.
Please do not call us, we will call you when the time comes. The
sooner contracts are mailed back, the higher you are on the list.
Each consecutive year that you are on the list also rates you
higher. (Someone on the list 2 years in a row would be in first
before someone on it the first time.)
Peel'N'Stick
A fun get-together during which we will affix address labels to
postcards promoting the Holiday Show is scheduled for Wednesday,
November 13. This dessert/peel'n stick party will take place at
Sharon Garceau's home at 7pm. Coffee, desserts, and conversations
of interest are free! For more information and directions call
Sharon @ 401-397-4594. Please call if you plan to attend, so that
we know how many pies, cookies, and cakes to bake!
