Providence Jewelry Museum

PROGRAM – SNEADA's March meeting will be held at the Providence Jewelry Museum, located at One Spectacle Street, Cranston, on March 4, at 11 a.m .
The meeting will be followed by lunch at The Royal Buffet in Cranston. The museum requires a minimum of 20 people, so please r.s.v.p. to Bob Anderson as soon as possible. The museum holdings include the 1870's to the present. Collections include the machinery, tools, and components used in manufacturing jewelry and approximately 1000 pieces of 20 th century costume jewelry. The library consists of about 120 reference and art books, trade and fashion publications, and photocopies of the “Manufacturing Jeweler” 1885-1900. Additional holdings include jewelry advertisements from 1945 to present, photographs of jewelry workers, signs from jewelry companies, jewelry designers' drawings, and plating formulae notebooks.

MUSEUM DIRECTIONS: Providence Jewelry Museum, One Spectacle St., Cranston
From Route 95, take Exit 16, (Route 2 Reservoir Avenue) turn right onto Rt.2 – Reservoir Avenue. Pass Calart on left and take first right which is Pleasant Street. Follow Pleasant Street, bearing right around small island until you reach Manhasset Street—a right turn. Turn right on to Manhasset and follow (it will become Spectacle, a deadend.) Museum is at the very end. It is a yellow-painted building with a sign that says, “Technic, Inc.” on it. Museum is right under the sign.
RESTAURANT DIRECTIONS: Royal Buffet, 272 Garfield Street, Cranston, Tel. 946-1986. Return to Rt. 2. take left and return to Rt. 10, North (roughly where you got off.) Follow Rt. 10 to first exit, directs you “To Cranston Street.” At light off ramp, take left, Niantic Ave. Follow to Cranston Street—left onto Cranston Street, First left off Cranston Street at light is Garfield Ave. Restaurant is in shopping center with Lowe's, Stop & Shop, etc. It is located in plaza between K-Mart and Stop & Shop.
