PROGRAM - Rhode Island School of Design's Collection of Drawings, Prints, Watercolors, & Photography
Presenter: Jan Howard
Place: Johnston Historical Society, 101 Putnam Pike, (Rt. 44) Johnston, RI
Ms. Howard will speak on RISD's collection of drawings, prints, watercolors, and photographs. The collection covers from the fifteenth century to present. A slide show presentation will illustrate the collection's various areas and media. RISD has the third largest watercolor collection in the United States and is second only to Yale and the Hunter Library in California.
Directions: The meeting will take place in the barn museum right in back of the Johnston Historical Society at 101 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44) in Johnston. From Rt. 295, take exit 7 and go east towards Centerdale for about 1.1 miles. The museum is on the left side of the road right next to a fire station. The barn is located right in back of the house museum and displays some very interesting exhibits. There's plenty of parking in back of the fire station and on the back and side streets around the property.
FROM the PRESIDENT - Welcome Back! We hope everyone had a good summer filled with profitable shows and enjoyable vacations. Although we take a break from our general meetings in the summer, many SNEADA members and committees have been busy, producing our new summer show at the Crowne Plaza this August (many thanks to all who helped!) and planning for the upcoming year.
Thanks to the Program Committee, we will be enjoying a nice variety of educational programs and opportunities to explore Rhode Island's historical and cultural resources. The Endowment committee has approved the Woonsocket Museum of Work & Culture as the recipient of a grant from SNEADA to fund school visits for schools with limited budgets. Our Membership Committee is making plans to get the word out about our organization and welcome new members. Our Website Committee has created a new web page to promote our shows, making that information more accessible to web visitors. Already our Brochure Committee is getting ready to update our popular brochure in time for our Holiday Show. The Show Committee is working on the details of that show, being held at our new venue, The Crowne Plaza, the Friday evening and Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend. And the Nominating Committee has been hard at work developing a slate of officers to be presented to the membership at our October meeting.
Whether you are a newer member or a long-time member, we hope to see you at some of our meetings. It is a great way to socialize and share information with other dealers, hear informative programs, and offer input into SNEADA's activities. Members of the public are invited to our general meetings, so feel free to invite other dealers to attend. Finally, we welcome and encourage folks to get involved-anything from providing refreshments at a meeting to serving on one of our committees. See you in September!
SUMMER SHOW - The first Summer Show to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel has come and gone and a fine show it was thanks to the efforts of the show committee:
Lois and Sam Torman; Lilly and Ray Dufault; Chet Sobodacha; Wayne Nelson; Wayne Swanson; Karen McCaughey [and Chair: Charlie McCaughey.] Thanks also to those who attended the "Peel & Stick" which was finished in jig time, allowing everyone to enjoy an adult beverage or two.
The show's attendance was decent for a first-time show and, listening to some of the success stories from many of the dealers, those who came were spending. We plan to repeat the show next year on Sunday, August 20 and, with more advanced notice, we should get more member participation.
BROCHURES - It is time for the printing of the brochures. Send any changes (changes only) in your listing information (new locations, new e-mail addresses, etc.) to Lois Torman. Lois may be reached by telephone 401-781-2650; e-mail: losamtor@cox.net or by post at 45 Welfare Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910.
DUES DUE - It is also membership renewal time. Soon, you will be receiving more information about renewing your membership and updating your membership information. The sooner you respond, the easier it is for our hard-working volunteers to update membership and financial records and web site listings and to publish your business information in the brochures for distribution at the upcoming Holiday Show. Member Dues for the 2005-2006 year are $70.00. Please make your check payable to SNEADA and mail to:

BYLAWS - Enclosed please find a copy of SNEADA bylaws.
These were updated last year, and we would like everyone to have a copy with those revisions.
Respectfully submitted,
