PROGRAM – We are pleased to announce that
Kenneth Gloss, proprietor of the Brattle Book Shop in Boston,
has agreed to be the guest speaker at the SNEADA November meeting
on Monday, November 3, 2003. The Brattle Book Shop is one of the
oldest and best-known antiquarian book stores. Kenneth Gloss has
appeared as an appraiser on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow and has
submitted appraisals for many prestigious institutions such as
the Boston Public Library, Harvard University, Tufts, and many
others.
The lecture title is “Treasures in Your Attic,
Old and Rare Books.” Mr. Gloss will talk about old and rare
books and what makes them valuable. He will take questions from
the audience and appraise all books that are brought in. He encourages
you to bring books for evaluation. As always, this lecture is
open to the public and there is no admission charge.
Annual Elections- Our 2004 Executive Committee was
elected at the October meeting. The board includes some old and
new faces. In addition to welcoming the new board, we want to
thank the outgoing board members Sharon Garceau, Richard Greene,
Roberta MacDonald and outgoing President Ken MacDonald for their
service during the last two years.

Dealer of the Year – Sharon and Roger Garceau
received SNEADA’s Dealer of the Year Award at our October
meeting. Our congratulations and thanks go to Sharon and Roger
for their efforts in so many of the group’s committees and
activities, and for Sharon’s terrific job recruiting new
members.
Membership – Two new memberships were approved
at the October meeting. We extend a warm welcome to Cynthia Fogarty
and Judith Spitz.
Holiday Show – Promotion is gearing up for
our Holiday Antiques Show at CCRI on December 6th and 7th. Featured
this year will be international author/artist, Ann Eckert Brown.
Ms. Brown will be available for book signing in the main room
on both days with her book, American Wall Stenciling, 1790-1840.
This should be an interesting and exciting addition to our holiday
show.
Enclosed please find your complimentary admission-for-two
cards for this CCRI show.
Peel and Stick: Wednesday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
is the date and time. Lilly Dufault’s house (110 Meadow
Avenue, Wakefield, RI) is the place. We will label cards promoting
the Holiday Show and share some yummy desserts. If you can help
that evening, please let me know 401 789-1427. Thank you!
PCD Spring Show – The committee has secured
a date for our Spring Antiques Show at the Providence Country
Day Schoool. Mark your calendars for March 20 and March 21.
Brochure – As of the brochure deadline, 95
members had submitted their information and dues. These members
will be listed in the brochure which will be ready for distribution
at the Holiday Show. Many thanks for Lois Torman and Karen McCaughey
for their hard work!
Web Site – The site has received between 450
and 550 visitors per week this fall. Many are finding us through
Google, Yahoo, AOL, and MSN searches, and a few from Maine Antiques
Digest site. Several of our members have been contacted by web
visitors. Also, be sure to check the Classified Ads page and Announcements
page often, and post your own ad or announcement—it’s
free and easy!
Holiday Party Date – (Just a little advance
notice so you will be sure to mark your calendars.) Marry Gormally
has graciously offered the use of her shop, Mentor Antiques, as
our party site for Friday, January 9, 2004. More details will
be upcoming in next month’s newsletter.
