Antique Oak Panel
Description:
I would appreciate any light that any of you learned people might be able to shed on this item. What I know is, it was given to my wife's freind by her grandfather who was a ctizen of the UK but had traveled the world extensively. It is a relief carved in oak and I am told it could be 300 to 400 year old English oak from a tree grown close to the river Thames. Back then, as now, the Thames was severely polluted and caused the wood harvested nearby to be dark brown. I tend to agree with this. I am quite sure that it depicts the first station of the cross showing Jesus being condemned.
